Green HomeAre today’s homebuyers really looking for a “green home?” Yes they are!  Recent consumer preference surveys indicate that energy-efficient features top homebuyer wish lists today.

Green elements are increasingly used in newly built homes and are topping the list of those remodeling their existing home. A recent survey by The National Association of Home Builders found that 62% of single-family builders and 54% of multifamily developers were completing at least 15% of their projects as green (meaning achieving the requirements specified by a recognized green building standard or equivalent). And the study also found that 19% of single-family builders built more than 90% of their homes as green.

Here’s a snapshot of the most popular green features that can attract homebuyers:

  • Energy efficient appliances
  • A home in an environmentally friendly community (like we have here in Sonoma and Napa Valley!)
  • Solar panels
  • Green heating and cooling measures
  • Energy efficient lighting
  • Energy conserving landscaping, which is so important in California due to our on-going drought

Homebuyer’s ages 34 and younger are searching for newly built homes that are already loaded with green efficiency amenities. Older homebuyers are also citing energy efficiency as a reason to purchase a newly built home
